Now in its 10th year under the Newmyer name, the tournament has become a signature event from the Andrews University Office of Athletics. At 27, he has come to believe that following Jesus means stepping outside the familiar walls of the church and into the messy, uncertain spaces of human need.  *** Whether in his professional life or through his ministry, Habimana strives to live out a faith that reaches beyond sermons and pews. His story is a quiet reminder that there are many young Adventists reimagining what it means to live like Christ.  <<< Read the full story at the Lake Union Herald <a href="https://www.lakeunionherald.org/archive/articles/a-heart-for-the-community">site</a> >>> Thu, 08 Jan 2026 15:58:00 +0000 Andrews Staff Member Leads Church Ministry http://www.andrews.edu/agenda/68706 In 2024 alone, the Lake Union awarded more than 200k to youth-led evangelism projects, and across the region the impact can be seen in the stories of students and young professionals who are leading initiatives that are reshaping their churches and communities.  *** Another project funded through the congress, titled “Build Computers Build Relationships,” was led by Russell Murnighan, an Andrews University’s IT department employee. Over two summers, he hosted a four-session workshop at his church that guided participants through understanding why to build a computer, how to choose the parts, and then assembling the machine through two hands-on sessions. Participants received either the computers they built, or refurbished units Russell upgraded with equipment he received from Andrews. One family who attended later visited their church evangelistic series and even had the opportunity to meet the evangelist. Baker Jr., PhD, to present an archaeological lecture titled “Raging Bull and Peaceful Hippo” on Monday, March 9, at 7 p.m. in Lynn Wood Hall chapel on campus. As associate director of Andrews University Press in Michigan, Baker serves as the managing editor of the Andrews Study Bible and the Andrews Bible Commentary volumes.
